Sustainable Development and major conferences
We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. All life is interrelated. Dr Martin Luther king jr.
Sustainable development is a concept which refers to the process of socio- economic development through the judicious utilisation of natural resources, keeping in mind the needs of the future generation. The concept developed in the 1960s when people became aware of dangerous effects of industrialization on the environment.
The best and most widely used definition of sustainable development was given by the Brundtland commission in its report our common Future (1987).It defined sustainable development as''development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs '' Thus its clear from this definition that we have to use resources in limited way or in their carrying capacity.
Awareness regarding dangerous of environmental degradation, collect world leaders under common roof .they discussed these dangerous and tried to put fourth preventive measures. This resulted in various environmental conferences.
